life update

hey hi so today I signed the lease for the apartment and paid first month’s rent as well as the move in fees and everything, on move in day Ryan, Caitlin and Dwight will sign as well and we will have a home

I am brimming with lots of creative feelings, after developing three Holga rolls yesterday, I am extremely pleased with the results. I shot two rolls of this off brand Ultrafine 400 film and then one roll of Kodak Tri Pan? 320 speed that expired in ‘76, and for all those who are curious, other than a slight color difference and some curling, the film was pretty much pristine, which blew my mind. I just added 20% to the time in development and all was well!

Tomorrow I get to print my contact sheets from these rolls and I can start out on my prints, I am really excited : I am getting a brand new box of paper and I love that feeling

Meanwhile we have a short assignment, we have to photograph something all white or all black and create a single print. I am going to go with all white because breaking white is *usually* pretty easy if you meter correctly to begin with, flashing is always reliable, I’ll probably do a still life of fabrics and trinkets

in other other news, I have a critique tomorrow for my moon photos (which I honestly forgot about already) and that will be fun, I like seeing what everyone else presents on critique day. I get so sporadic with my photography that a week after I finalize a series, it’s in the furthest corners of my mind and I am on another plane completely

One last thing, today I had a great/awful little adventure with ericat that started with a trip to the Cummer Museum studying a Norman Rockwell for a long time, it progressed onto Monet, Cassatt, Degas and then ended with being lost trying to get to a place for food that was ultimately closed when we finally arrived

so we went to burrito gallery/burrito bar and bonded and I like small adventures and now I need to shower and read the hunger games (again), no shame

I spy a roof owl that I got for christmas that is meant to scare away birds but really just scares away guests in our dorm room, we have him facing the wall right now because he has no eyes and it’s really not cute

today is the first of my super exam week, and in about an hour I have my Survey II test!

tomorrow is Biology and the next day is my Rubens to Rembrandt class

I wanted to play with tension and color schemes and combination, as well as photoshop manipulations

I have always been intrigued by levitation work but I have taken the literal way out in most of my endeavors,by literally jumping time and time againuntil I could achieve the right composition with my body and I decided it was about time I did it a different way, through layer masks and a 10 dollar stool from Walmart

I think this was, for the most part, a success (much more so than my first attempt years and years ago)

Just released my whole plexi glass series

the whole thing can be seen on my blog

This was for an assignment in my color photography class and this was my choppy and poorly put together artist statement

this is my home series aka the plexi glass series

“The word home is so malleable to me. It can change shape, morph into different places and states of mind. It’s too vulnerable to tack onto one single location. It’s too valuable to limit to a plot of land. Home isn’t a single space, because if it were I would be hard pressed to keep it occupied. I am sporadic, impulsive and spontaneous; I am always in motion and I need a compact home that can keep up with me, that goes through life with me. I need an idea, not a physical location. I need something impenetrable, stronger than any structure can be.
Therefore, I took “home is where the heart is” and created a visual metaphor using a sheet of Plexiglas lined with a wooden frame. The small frame represented the small space I keep around myself that I call home. More figurative than literal, it can withstand any storm or swell. The glass creates a barrier between the world and myself but still allows an audience to peer into my world. It represents safety with a dose of freedom. My home keeps me protected, it’s where I rest, where I love others and also miss them. I photographed my frame in different locations to show that I take home with me wherever I go, during positive and negative times. For me, home is everywhere at any time because home is buried deep inside me.”

Ryan built this beautiful frame for me and I carried it around in my car for weeks, I know this isn’t quite done yet, I’d like to continue to pursue it when I have more time (shooting while in school full time and working part time can be difficult) and more of an idea of what I want

but for now the finale is my favorite and I’d like to let it rest for a little while

hello hi

so things are going swimmingly, I have a new series planned that I will be shooting this week and I can’t get it off of my mind

I am just so enchanted with how the photos are looking in my head and the more I think and talk about them, the more clearly I see it, I feel so good about this new method of photo taking (you know, where I plan before I shoot, crazy right?)

I’ll be shooting them in black and white for my assignment but I hope to shoot some digital copies as well just in case, I feel like color will really add to them
